609 of 609 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 243. 17 printed columns. The tall "All cases" heading and the stub heading "Industrial group^2" each span both heading levels and are repeated in both. "Unfair labor practice cases" spans the eight columns "All C cases" through "CP"; "Representation cases" spans the four columns "All R cases" through "RD" — this placement of the two "All" columns is confirmed arithmetically (e.g. Food: CA..CP = 343+104+12+2 = 461 = All C cases; RC+RM+RD = 183+9+28 = 220 = All R cases). The crop is cut off after the "Manufacturing" subtotal row: the table continues (nonmanufacturing industries and grand total) beyond this image, and no footnote text is printed on this crop, so `footnotes` is empty even though the excluded caption carries a raised 1 and the stub heading carries a raised 2. All sixteen numeric columns were checked against the printed "Manufacturing" subtotal and every one agrees exactly (All cases 5,528; All C 3,917; CA 2,772; CB 998; CC 112; CD 18; CE 0; CG 0; CP 17; All R 1,540; RC 1,284; RM 75; RD 181; UD 32; AC 14; UC 25), and each data row's All cases equals All C + All R + UD + AC + UC. No misprints detected. The CE and CG columns are printed zeros throughout (not blanks). Scan quality is good; the only slightly soft digits are the RD entry for "Aircraft and parts" (printed 3, sitting a little high in the cell) and the CB entry for "Miscellaneous manufacturing industries" (95), both of which are confirmed by the column totals.

p. 244. This crop is the continuation (second) page of the table: it begins mid-body with "Metal mining" and shows no column headings, so header_rows is empty. The grid is the stub plus 16 numeric columns, separated by heavier rules after columns 4, 9 and 15 (counting numeric columns from the left). Arithmetic cross-checks used to confirm column placement: every printed subtotal row ("Mining", "Transportation, communication, and other utilities", "Services") equals the sum of its component rows in all 16 columns, and in every one of the 31 rows column 2 equals the sum of columns 3-9 and column 1 equals column 2 plus the sum of columns 11-16. Column 10 is the one column that does not participate in those identities: it is smaller than the sum of columns 11-16 in most rows (e.g. Wholesale trade 289 vs 297, Retail trade 521 vs 538, Health services 283 vs 305), though its own subtotals add correctly down the column. Transcribed as printed; no values were adjusted. The rightmost column's figures sit very close to the right edge of the crop, but the digits are complete and right-aligned consistently, and the column-1 identity above confirms nothing further to the right is missing. Row labels that wrapped over two or three printed lines ("Mining and quarrying of nonmetallic minerals (except fuels)", "Local and suburban transit and interurban highway passenger transportation", "Motor freight transportation and warehousing", "Hotels, rooming houses, camps, and other lodging places", "Automotive repair, services, and garages", "Amusement and recreation services (except motion pictures)") were joined and end-of-line hyphens repaired. The scan carries stray speckling and broken leader dots over several stub labels, but no label or value was illegible. Neither footnote line ends with a period in the original.
