  1. 1 A single case may include allegations of violation of more than one subsection of the Act. Therefore, the total of the various allegations is greater than the total number of cases.
  2. 2 Sec. 8(a)(1) is a general provision forbidding any type of employer interference with the rights of the employees guaranteed by the Act, and therefore is included in all charges of employer unfair labor practices

0 of 68 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 236. The table is printed as two side-by-side panels sharing the same two column headings; the left panel's rows (sections A and B) are given first, then the right panel's rows (the 8(b) Recapitulation, B1, B2, C and D), in a single set of three columns. The stub heading is blank in both panels (only a stray printer's mark appears there). PLATE SHIFT, left panel, "Subsections of sec. 8(b);" block: the two number columns are printed about one line lower than their row labels, so on the page 2,912/100.0 sits beside the "8(b)(1)" label, 1,450/49.8 beside "8(b)(2)", and so on, with an unlabelled final number line (1 / 0.0) below "8(b)(1)(2)(3)(6)". There are exactly 20 labels (Total cases plus 19 subsection lines) and 20 number lines. I have restored the intended pairing (Total cases = 2,912; 8(b)(1) = 1,450; ... 8(b)(1)(2)(3)(6) = 1), which is confirmed independently by the right panel's Recapitulation — rows containing (1) sum to 1,893, (2) to 439, (3) to 232, (5) to 8, (6) to 12, (7) to 119, all exact matches — and by every percentage (e.g. 1,450/2,912 = 49.8, 687/2,912 = 23.6). The 8(a) block above it shows no such shift (its 13 subsection entries sum exactly to 6,223). DECIMAL POINTS: this 1-bit scan drops the decimal point in many Percent-of-total-cases cells, which print as "100 0", "14 2", "49 8", "23 6", "0 3" etc., while neighbouring cells in the same column show the point clearly ("1.5", "19.4", "5.1", "100.0"). I have written the decimal point in every such cell; no digits were changed. PUNCTUATION: periods after the section letters and after "sec" are faint or dropped in places — "A" and "C" show no visible period while "B." and "D." do, and "sec" prints without a visible period throughout. I have written them in the report's normal style (A., B., C., D., B1., B2., "sec. 8(a)"). "A. Charges filed against employers under sec. 8(a)" is typeset with a space inside the word ("u nder"), closed up here. PROBABLE MISPRINTS, transcribed as printed: the first line of the right panel's Recapitulation reads "(8b)(1)", evidently for "8(b)(1)"; the left panel's 8(b) stub head ends in a semicolon, "Subsections of sec. 8(b);", where its 8(a) counterpart ends in a colon. Two printed percentages disagree with the printed counts by one tenth — 8(a)(1)(3): 3,069/6,223 = 49.3 but 49.2 is printed; 8(b)(4)(B): 524/687 = 76.3 but 76.4 is printed. The counts themselves are confirmed by the recapitulations (rows containing (3) sum to 3,982; rows containing (B) sum to 534), so the percentages are left exactly as printed. The small marks above the "119" in the "Total cases 8(b)(7)" row and in the "Against unions alone" row are scan specks, not footnote markers.
