Reader’s notes

p. 261. 20 columns: stub, Total number of situations, Total (Percent of all / Cumulative percent of all), then Number + Percent-by-size-class pairs for CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CP, CA–CB combinations, Other C combinations. FOOTNOTE TEXT MISSING: the crop ends with the "Above 9,999" row, so no footnote block is visible. Two markers are nonetheless present on the image: a raised 1 on the caption (omitted per instructions) and a raised 2 printed immediately before 23,560 in the Total row, transcribed as "23,560^2". Their definitions are below the crop. DROPPED DECIMAL POINTS: this is a coarse 1-bit scan and the period in many percent cells did not survive (e.g. the cumulative cell of row 10–19 images as "36 8", row 20–29 Percent-of-all as "7 5", row Under 10 CE percent as "59 1"). All such cells are transcribed with the decimal point restored, consistent with the one-decimal format used throughout and with the column arithmetic. 3/8 GLYPH AMBIGUITY — four cells resolved by cross-footing, flagged here because the scan rendering favored the other digit: - "500–599" Total number of situations: transcribed 439; the glyph reads like 489. 439 is required by the row components (259+129+17+4+2+28 = 439), by 1.9 percent of 23,560, by the cumulative chain (86.1 + 1.9 = 88.0), and by the Total column summing to 23,560. - "1,000–1,999" CA Number of situations: transcribed 436; the glyph reads like 486. 436 is required by the row total 753 and makes the CA column sum to exactly 15,283. - "4,000–4,999" CB Number of situations: transcribed 33; the glyph reads like 38. 33 is required by the row total 149 and makes the CB column sum to exactly 4,411. - "600–699" CB Percent by size class: transcribed 1.3; the glyph reads like 1.8. 1.3 matches 56/4,411 and makes the CB percent column sum to exactly 100.0. - Row label "300–399": the second 3 images like an 8 ("300–899"); the surrounding sequence (200–299, then 400–499) and the normal class structure fix it as 300–399. VERIFICATION: with those readings, all 34 size-class rows sum across to their printed totals, all eight Number columns sum to their printed column totals (15,283 / 4,411 / 1,520 / 482 / 83 / 428 / 1,116 / 237, which themselves sum to 23,560), and every percent column sums to exactly 100.0. PRINTED ROUNDING QUIRKS (transcribed as printed, not corrected): several percents are one tenth above the straight quotient, e.g. CD 25.6 for 123/482 = 25.5, CD 13.4 for 64/482 = 13.3, Other C 37.2 for 88/237 = 37.1. Conversely row "140–149" CB percent is printed 0.2 though 13/4,411 = 0.29. These are original typesetting, since each column still totals 100.0 as printed. Cells holding only a dash rule ("----") are transcribed as "", as are the leader dots in the Total row's Cumulative column. Printed zeros in Number columns are kept as 0.
