  1. 1 Sec. 8(a)(3) of the Act requires that to revoke a union-shop agreement, a majority of the employees eligible to vote must vote in favor of deauthorization.

40 of 40 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 243. 15 columns: stub + 5 under "Number of polls" + 5 under "Employees involved" + 4 under "Valid votes cast". Decimal points in the percent columns: the scan drops most of them, so many percent cells image as e.g. "45 6", "38 6", "54 0" with a gap where the point belongs. Two cells ("54.4" in Total/Number of polls–Resulting in deauthorization–Percent of total, and "80.5" in AFL-CIO/Valid votes cast–Percent of total eligible) retain a legible point, confirming the column is set to one decimal place. I have therefore written every percent cell with a decimal point. No digits were altered. The one cell that images oddly is Other local unions, Employees involved–In polls–Resulting in continued authorization–Percent of total, which prints as "24 8." with a stray mark trailing the 8; read as 24.8 (62/250), consistent with 75.2 in the paired column. All printed figures reconcile, which supports the digit reading and the column assignment: poll columns 56+47=103 and the four affiliation rows sum to 103, 56 and 47; employee columns 1,791+2,850=4,641 and the affiliation rows sum to 4,641, 1,791 and 2,850; valid votes 2,559+701+301+226=3,787 and 874+300+193+170=1,537. One oddity worth flagging, transcribed as printed and not corrected: the last column is headed "Percent of total eligible", but its values are the deauthorization votes as a percent of valid votes cast, not of total eligible (1,537/3,787=40.6, whereas 1,537/4,641=33.1). The same holds in each affiliation row. The preceding "Percent of total eligible" column under "Valid votes cast" does use total eligible (3,787/4,641=81.6). "AFL-CIO unions" is printed with an en dash between AFL and CIO; transcribed with a plain hyphen. The footnote marker is a raised 1 on the "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)" spanner heading. In the footnote text, "Sec" is followed by a wide space where a period would sit; the scan loses small points elsewhere, so I have rendered it "Sec." — the period itself is not legible in this image. Minor scan artifacts, not content: a stray tick above "38 6" in the Total row, and a clipped glyph at the extreme right edge of the crop beyond the table rule.
