Reader’s notes

p. 252. 15 columns: stub plus 7 case-type panels (All C, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CP), each with a "Number of cases" and a "Percent of cases closed" column. The stub heading "Stage of disposition" spans both heading levels and is repeated in each. Faint decimal points: in this 1-bit scan the decimal point drops out of several percent cells, which print as a bare space (e.g. "100 0" for CD in the total row; "87 4" for CP in "Before issuance of complaint"; "0 5" for CB and "1 1" for CA; "3 4" for CP in "After Board decision"; "0 0" for CC in "After Trial Examiner's Decision" and for CB and CC in "After Supreme Court action"). Every value in these columns is printed to one decimal place and each of the affected cells is consistent with its own number/base ratio, so I transcribed them with the decimal point restored. Percent cells that print as a dash rule ("--------") are given as "": the CD, CE and CP percent columns in the "After Trial Examiner's Decision, before issuance of Board decision" and "After Supreme Court action" rows, where the count is 0. Digit readings verified by cross-footing: each row's CA+CB+CC+CD+CE+CP counts sum exactly to its "All C cases" count (e.g. 14,270+5,262+1,640+598+57+390 = 22,217), and the eight stage rows sum to the printed total of 25,555 in the All C column. This resolves two glyphs that are ambiguous in the scan: CB "5,747" (not 6,747) in the total row and All C "45" (not 46) in "After Supreme Court action". No printed value appears to be in error. Minor scan artifacts that are not part of the data: a stray tick after the CC percent "100.0" in the total row, and small specks in the CD/CE columns of the "After Trial Examiner's Decision" row. The caption carries footnote marker 1, recorded with the caption elsewhere.
