Reader’s notes

p. 17. The crop is not a conventional statistical table: it is a bar chart ("Chart 2", titled "ULP CASE INTAKE (Charges and Situations Filed)", vertical scale 0 to 30,000) with a two-line data strip printed under the chart frame. The transcribed grid is that data strip: the stub holds the series names CHARGES and SITUATIONS, and the columns are the fiscal years 1962-1972 printed along the chart's horizontal axis, with "Fiscal Year" as the axis/stub label. The chart title, axis-scale numbers and the surrounding body text are not included. In the data strip several thousands separators did not survive the scan and appear as a faint gap rather than a comma (CHARGES 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1972; SITUATIONS 1962, 1968); these are transcribed with commas, consistent with the commas clearly printed in the other cells of the same rows. The data-strip digits are set in small type: the least certain are SITUATIONS/1964 (read 13,978, final digit could be a damaged 8) and CHARGES/1969 (read 18,651).
