40 of 40 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.
p. 183. 15 columns: stub + 5 under "Number of polls" + 5 under "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)" + 4 under "Valid votes cast". Four heading levels; "In polls" is a level that exists only in the "Employees involved" block, so the tall headings in the other two blocks ("Total", "Total eligible", "Resulting in deauthorization", "Resulting in continued authorization", "Percent of total eligible", "Cast for deauthorization") are repeated across the levels they span. Faint/broken decimal points in the scan: Teamsters "Resulting in continued authorization / Percent of total" prints as "57 7", Other national unions "Resulting in continued authorization / Percent of total" as "17 3", and Other local unions "Number of polls" percent cells as "75 0" and "25 0". In every case the period is worn away rather than absent in the typesetting (all other cells in those columns carry one decimal), and the arithmetic confirms the readings 57.7, 17.3, 75.0 and 25.0; transcribed with the decimal point. Footnote: the section number is small and worn — the second digit reads as either 3 or 8, i.e. "8(a)(3)" or "8(a)(8)". Transcribed as 8(a)(3), the union-shop provision the sentence describes. The abbreviation "Sec" shows no clear period in the scan; transcribed as "Sec.". All four component rows sum exactly to the printed Total row in every count column (97, 57, 40, 6,518, 2,430, 4,088, 5,335, 2,308), and every printed percentage agrees with the corresponding ratio to one decimal, so no misprints are suspected. The stub label "Affiliation of union holding union-shop contract" is printed on two lines and joined here; no row labels wrap.
