Geographic Distribution of Representation Elections Held in Cases Closed, Fiscal Year 1970

p. 197. 17 columns: stub, "Total elections", five columns of elections won by unions, elections with no representative chosen, employees eligible to vote, total valid votes cast, five columns of valid votes cast for unions, total votes for no union, and eligible employees in units choosing representation. The crop is cut off at the bottom: "District of Columbia" is the last row and its printed line is only partially visible (its digits are legible and were transcribed); the table clearly continues with further states and division totals on the rest of the page, and any footnote text printed under the table is not in this crop. The stub heading carries a raised footnote marker 1 ("Division and State^1") whose footnote text is therefore not visible here. The division subtotal rows (New England, Middle Atlantic, East North Central, West North Central) are printed between double rules; they are transcribed as ordinary rows with their indented labels. "East North Central" and "West North Central" each wrap onto two printed lines and are joined. All arithmetic cross-checks pass for every row and every division subtotal shown (component union columns sum to the union total; union total plus no-union votes equals total valid votes cast; elections won plus elections with no representative equals total elections; state values sum to the division subtotals), so no misprints are suspected. Note the coincidence that both the New England subtotal and New York show 423 total elections.

p. 198. Continuation page: no column headings are printed on this crop, so header_rows is empty. The table has 17 columns (stub plus 16 data columns), confirmed by the column rules and by the fact that every data row carries 16 values. The crop also begins in the middle of the South Atlantic section — the States above Virginia (Delaware, Maryland, District of Columbia, etc.) are on the preceding page, so the printed "South Atlantic" subtotal (998 in column 1) is larger than the sum of the six State rows shown here (773). The other regional subtotals (East South Central, West South Central, Mountain, Pacific, Outlying areas) do each equal the sum of the State rows printed above them, in every column. A stray curved ink/pen stroke runs through column 8 from the Nevada row (1,817) down past the Mountain row (18,188) toward Washington (6,961); it touches but does not obscure those figures, and all three are legible as transcribed. The right-hand margin of the crop shows two small cut-off fragments of marginal marks (at the Virginia/West Virginia line and again near Montana/Idaho); they are outside the last column rule and are not part of the table. Nevada's columns 3 and 4 are printed 13 then 15 (i.e. column 4 exceeds column 3, unlike neighbouring rows); this is as printed and is internally consistent, since 13+15+9+2 = 39, the value in column 2.
