666 of 666 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out. 2 cells break a sum: 'Automotive and other transport', column 2: prints 1,056, the subtotals in columns 3 to 16 add to 1,054; 'Manufacturing', column 15: prints 82, rows 'Ordnance and accesso' to 'Miscellaneous Manufa' add to 80.

Reader’s notes

p. 173. The crop shows only the Manufacturing section of the table; the table continues on following pages (no nonmanufacturing groups or grand total appear here), and no footnote texts are printed within the crop even though marker 1 (on the caption) and marker 2 (on the stub heading "Industrial group") are present. The vertical running head along the right edge ("Thirty-fifth Annual Report of the National Labor Relations Board") is not part of the table. All sixteen columns are legible; every column of the 23 industry rows sums exactly to the printed "Manufacturing" total, and each row's All cases equals All C + All R + UD + AC + UC, so no misprints or doubtful cells were found.

p. 174. This crop is a continuation page: no column headings are printed on it, so header_rows is empty. The grid has 16 columns (stub plus 15 numeric columns), counted from the column rules; the body begins mid-table (the industry groups preceding "Metal mining", e.g. the manufacturing groups, are on the previous page), so the "Total, all industrial groups" line here covers rows not all shown in this crop. The whole grid was cross-checked against the table's own internal arithmetic and every row and column reconciles exactly: column 2 equals the sum of columns 3-8; column 9 equals the sum of columns 10-12; column 1 equals columns 2+9+13+14+15; and each group line ("Mining", "Transportation, communication, and other utilities", "Services") equals the sum of its member rows in every column. No printed figure appears to be a misprint. One cell required a second look: "Other transportation", last (15th) numeric column. At first pass it could be read as 1, but 0 is correct - both the column sum (group total 20) and the row sum (58+43+0+0+0 = 101, the printed stub-row total) confirm 0. "Legal Services" is printed with a capital S, unlike the other service rows; kept as printed. Four row labels wrap onto two printed lines and are joined here: "Automobile repairs, garages, and other miscellaneous re- pair services" (end-of-line hyphen repaired to "repair"), "Motion pictures and other amusement and recreation services", "Museum, art galleries, and botanical and zoological gardens", and "Transportation, communication, and other utilities". In footnote 2 the mark after "Source" is unclear in the scan - there is a wide gap where a colon or period would sit, but no punctuation is legibly printed; transcribed with a single space.
