  1. 1 "Proceedings" are comparable to "cases" reported in annual reports prior to fiscal year 1964. This term more accurately describes the data inasmuch as a single "proceeding" often includes more than one "case." See "Glossary" for definitions of terms.
  2. 2 A proceeding in which the Board had entered an order dismissing the complaint and the charging party appealed such dismissal in the court of appeals.

56 of 65 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 247. 12 columns: stub, 5 "Number of proceedings" columns, 4 "Percentages" columns, and the 2 cumulative columns. The stub has no printed heading. Dash rules ("----") throughout the percentage and cumulative columns are rendered as "". Doubtful cells: 1. Row "Board orders set aside" (first, courts-of-appeals section), column Percentages / Vs. employers only: printed as "16 4" with a visible gap and no legible decimal point in the scan. Transcribed as "16.4"; this is supported by the column, which then sums to 100.0 (52.8 + 25.6 + 3.9 + 1.3 + 16.4). 2. Supreme Court section, column Percentages / Vs. employers only: the printed figures do not reconcile with the counts in that section. The section base is 9 proceedings vs. employers only, so "Board orders affirmed in full" (3 of 9) should be 33.3 and "Remanded to Board" (5 of 9) should be 55.6; the page reads 83.3 and 56.0, and the column therefore sums to 150.4 rather than 100.0. Both are transcribed as printed. The leading digit of "83.3" is legible as an 8 at this resolution, but a misprint (or a damaged 3) is likely. Spelling: in "On petitions for contempt" and "Court orders holding respondent in contempt" the word renders in the scan with what looks like an "m" ("comtempt"). Transcribed as "contempt", matching the capitalised "Contempt cases ..." rows lower in the same table. Likewise the dotless "i" the scan produces in "petitions", "unions" and "dismissed" is treated as a scan artifact, not as printed text. All other internal checks reconcile: the component rows sum to their section totals in every count column, and the cumulative Number and Percent columns sum to 4,015 / 100.0 and 180 / 100.0 respectively.
