Final Outcome of Representation Elections in Cases Closed, Fiscal Year 1969

Dash rules ("---", "----") in empty cells are transcribed as "". Printed zeros are kept as 0 and are distinguishable from the dash rules in all rows. Arithmetic cross-checks all reconcile as printed: the four 1-union rows sum exactly to the "1-union elections" line in every column (e.g. 185,675 + 39,741 + 34,941 + 3,511 = 263,868), the ten 2-union rows sum exactly to the "2-union elections" line in every column (e.g. employees 150,852 and 122,957), and in each body row "Total won" + "Elections in which no representative chosen" equals "Total elections" while the union-type breakdowns sum to their totals. No misprint detected.

p. 232. STRUCTURE: 16 columns (stub + 15 numeric). No column headings are printed on this crop — it is a continuation page (printed page number 221, running head "Appendix A" in the right margin, both omitted), so header_rows is empty. The first two body rows and the two subtotal/total rows at the top finish section A, carried over from the preceding page; "B. ELECTIONS IN RC CASES" is a centered full-width section heading, transcribed as a label-only row. The table continues past the bottom of the crop: the "3 (or more)-union elections" and overall total rows for section B are not on this page. EMPTY CELLS: the table uses short dash rules ("---", "----") for not-applicable cells; per instructions these and genuinely blank cells are both rendered "". Column 1 cells that are a printed "0" are kept as "0". DECIMAL POINTS: in the percent column (col 2) the scan drops the decimal point in many cells, which print as e.g. "100 0", "52 6", "92 7", "81 2", "84 0", "90 9", "83 3", "85 7", "64 6", "81 5", "53 9", "60 4". The "2-union elections" col9 total 142,751 also requires 20,663 (my column sum with 20,636 gives 142,724, short by exactly 27). Note the row immediately above genuinely is 20,636, so this may be my reading anchoring on it; 20,663 is the arithmetically implied value. 2. Row "AFL-CIO v. Local", col 15 (last column): reads 445, but 61,122 − 60,679 = 443, and the printed "2-union elections" col15 total 25,619 requires 443 (my column sum with 445 gives 25,621, over by exactly 2). 443 is the arithmetically implied value. Every other cross-check in the table passes exactly (col3 = cols 4-7; col10 = cols 11-14; col9 = col10 + col15; all subtotal rows; all percentages), so these two cells are most likely 300-dpi 1-bit scan misreads on my part rather than misprints, but I have transcribed what I see rather than correcting.

p. 233. 16 columns. The crop begins mid-table: the first three rows continue a section on RC elections whose own section line and earlier rows are on the preceding page, and the crop ends mid-section in "D. ELECTIONS IN RD CASES" after the row "AFL-CIO v. Teamsters" — the rest of section D is cut off below. No footnotes are printed on this crop; the raised 2 on the "Total elections" heading refers to a note printed elsewhere. Percent-won column: the decimal point is very faint or dropped in this scan for many values, which print as e.g. "100 0", "92 6", "56 0", "62 5", "42 1", "80 0", "77 8", "86 4", "27 6", "23 4", "33 3", "0 0". I have transcribed them with the decimal point, since every value in that column is a one-decimal percentage and each is arithmetically consistent with Total won / Total elections. Section line "C ELECTIONS IN RM CASES": no period is visible after the "C" in the scan; I transcribed it as "C." to match the clearly printed "D." below, but the period may genuinely be absent. Suspected misprint, transcribed as printed: the RM subtotal row reads "2-union leections" (for "2-union elections"); the parallel RD/RM rows read "1-union elections". Row label "AFL-CIO v. Natl" (RM section) shows no period after "Natl" in the scan, unlike the clearly printed "Natl. v. Local" two rows below; a period merged into the following leader dots is possible. The first body row's label wraps onto two printed lines ("AFL-CIO v. AFL-CIO v." / "AFL-CIO v. Teamsters v. Local") and is joined into one row. Cells printed as a dash rule ("---" or "----") are rendered "". Printed zeros are kept as 0. All row/column sums and percentages I checked (the 1-union, 2-union, Total RM and 1-union RD subtotals, and the Total RC row) reconcile, which supports the digit readings and the column assignments.

p. 234. This crop is the tail of a table continued from earlier page(s): no column headings are printed on the image, so header_rows is empty. The body above the first visible row ("AFL-CIO v. Natl") is cut off by the crop — the "2-union elections" subtotal (30 elections) exceeds the sum of the three 2-union rows shown here (3 + 19 + 1 = 23), because the earlier 2-union rows are on the preceding page. Column count (15 data columns + stub) was taken from the vertical rules and confirmed by internal arithmetic: in the "Total RD elections" row, col 3 (99) + col 8 (194) = col 1 (293); cols 4-7 (53 + 18 + 10 + 18) = 99; col 10 (12,422) + col 15 (9,349) = col 9 (21,771); and cols 11-14 (8,248 + 2,269 + 925 + 980) = 12,422. The same relations hold row by row (e.g. "Natl. v. Local": col 13 "0" + col 14 "24" = col 9/10 "24"), which is what fixes the placement of the sparse values in cols 11-14 for the three two-union rows. "Total RD elections", percent column (col 2): the decimal point did not print cleanly and the cell reads as "33 8" on the scan. Transcribed as "33.8"; 99/293 = 33.8 percent confirms the intended value, and every other cell in that column is printed to one decimal (100.0, 93.3). The label "AFL-CIO v. AFL-CIO v. Teamsters" is printed on two lines ("AFL-CIO v. AFL-CIO v." / "Teamsters") and joined here as one row. "AFL-CIO" is set with a long hyphen in the original; written with a plain hyphen. "AFL-CIO v. Natl" in the first row shows no period after "Natl" (unlike "Natl. v. Local" in the third row); transcribed as printed.
