  1. 1 "Proceedings" are comparable to "cases" reported in annual reports prior to fiscal year 1964. This term more accurately describes the data inasmuch as a single "proceeding" often includes more than one "case." See "Glossary" for definitions of terms.
  2. 2 A proceeding in which the Board had entered an order dismissing the complaint and the charging party appealed such dismissal in the court of appeals.
  3. 3 The Board appeared as amicus curiae in two cases Amalgamated Food Employees Union Local 590 et al. v. Logan Valley Plaza, Inc., et al., 391 U.S. 308, and Nash v. Florida Industrial Commission et al., 389 U.S. 235, judgements of State courts reversed. The position supported by the Board was sustained in both cases.

52 of 61 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 253. 12 columns: stub, then 5 "Number of proceedings" columns, 4 "Percentages" columns, and 2 cumulative ("July 5, 1935-June 30, 1968") columns. The stub has no printed heading, so cell 0 of each header row is empty. "July 5, 1935-June 30, 1968" is a tall heading spanning the first two heading levels, so it is repeated there. Period/comma degradation: this 1-bit scan drops most periods and thins commas. Every decimal point in the Percentages and Percent columns is nearly invisible (e.g. "100 0", "54 5", "16 8"), but one survives legibly ("1.3", Board orders partially affirmed and partially remanded / Percent), confirming the convention; I have restored the decimal points throughout. On the same basis I restored the periods in "U.S.", "Vs." and the footnote text. If a strictly literal reading is wanted, note that the abbreviation points in the four "Vs. employers only" / "Vs. unions only" / "Vs. both employers and unions" headings and in the two "U.S." row labels are not individually visible at this resolution. Digit grouping: "3, 652" and "2, 121" are printed with a space after the comma and are written here as 3,652 and 2,121. Cells shown as a row of leader dots or a dash rule are transcribed as empty. Arithmetic checks all pass as printed, which supports the digit readings: 177+72+9+6+37 = 301 and 301+18 = 319 (Total); 139+71+6+5+34 = 255; 26+1+1+0+3 = 31; 2,121+720+149+46+616 = 3,652 and 58.1+19.7+4.1+1.3+16.8 = 100.0; 107+13+28+7+12+1+1+1 = 170 and 62.9+7.6+16.5+4.1+7.1+0.6+0.6+0.6 = 100.0. The percentage 68.7 (Court orders holding respondent in contempt) is 11/16 = 68.75 truncated rather than rounded, as printed. No misprints detected. Footnote 3's case citation reads "Local 590" in the image; the final digit is partly broken but the surrounding citation (391 U.S. 308) matches Amalgamated Food Employees Union Local 590 v. Logan Valley Plaza. "judgements" is spelled with the medial e as printed. The table caption, the running head ("Thirty-third Annual Report of the National Labor Relations Board", set vertically at the right edge) and the page number are omitted as instructed. Nothing appears cut off by the crop.
