The crop is cut off after the "Manufacturing" subtotal line — the table continues on the following page(s) with the nonmanufacturing industry groups and a grand total, which are not on this image. The marker "1" on the stub heading "Industrial group" has no footnote text printed within this crop, so `footnotes` is empty. Doubtful/odd cells: - "Textile mill products", column "Valid votes cast for unions / AFL-CIO unions": the scan shows a stray ink dot immediately before the figure (". 8, 363"). I read it as a speck, not a decimal point or a marker, and transcribed 8,363; the row adds (8,363+248+95+745 = 9,451, the printed row total), confirming the reading. - "Printing, publishing, and allied industries": the "Teamsters" and "Other national unions" cells under "Valid votes cast for unions" both read 509. This is not a duplication error on my part — the four components sum to the printed total 6,475. Arithmetic cross-checks: every data row and the "Manufacturing" line is internally consistent (union components sum to each "Total"; won + no-representative = total elections; votes for unions + votes for no union = total valid votes cast), and the column sums of all 23 industry rows reproduce the printed "Manufacturing" figures in every numeric column. No misprints detected.

p. 248. This crop is the continuation of a table begun on the preceding page: no column headings are printed on it, so header_rows is empty. The grid has 17 columns (stub plus 16 numeric columns), counted from the column rules and confirmed row by row. The crop also begins mid-table: the rows above "Metal mining" (and any section label introducing the mining group) fall on the previous page. Arithmetic checks all reconcile as transcribed, which cross-validates the faint cells. In particular: columns 2+7 = column 1 and columns 3+4+5+6 = column 2 on every data row; columns 11+12+13+14 = column 10 and columns 10+15 = column 9; and the "Mining", "Transportation, communication, and other utilities", "Services" and "Total, all industrial groups" lines equal the sums of their member rows in every column. Doubtful glyphs, all resolved by those checks: "Other transportation" last column reads 296 (the scan degrades the 6); "Water transportation" column 14 is printed with a space as "38 9" and is 389; "Medical and other health services" column 12 is a single digit 1; "Education services" last column is 49 and "Museums, art galleries, and botanical and zoological gardens" last column is 14, both confirmed by the Services subtotal of 15,408. In the footnote, the punctuation after "Source" is broken in the scan; it is rendered here as a colon, which is this report's usual form. A small stray ink mark sits in the right margin beside the "Transportation, communication, and other utilities" row; it is a scan artifact, not a footnote marker, and no footnote markers appear on any value, label or heading in this crop.
