665 of 665 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 221. The crop ends just below the "Manufacturing" subtotal line (a double rule), so the table continues on the following page(s); the footnote texts for markers 1 (on the caption) and 2 (on the stub heading "Industrial group") are not printed within this crop, hence `footnotes` is empty. The 16 columns are: stub, All cases, All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CP, All R cases, RC, RM, RD, UD, AC, UC. The three rightmost spanner headings are printed only as tall stacked headings over single columns ("Union deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases", "Unit clarification cases"), each with its abbreviation (UD, AC, UC) on the lower heading level; hyphenated line breaks in them were repaired. All 23 industry rows and the Manufacturing subtotal cross-check exactly: for each row CA+CB+CC+CD+CE+CP = All C, RC+RM+RD = All R, and All C + All R + UD + AC + UC = All cases; every column also sums down to the printed "Manufacturing" figure. No misprints detected. The scan shows a stray comma-like mark in the blank area above the "Unfair labor practice cases" spanner; it is a printing speck, not a heading, and was not transcribed.

p. 222. Continuation page: no column headings are printed on this crop, so header_rows is empty. The grid has 16 columns (stub + 15 numeric), counted from the column rules and confirmed by the total row. Every value was verified arithmetically and the table is fully self-consistent: for each data row col1 = col2 + col9 + col13 + col14 + col15, col2 = col3+col4+col5+col6+col7+col8, col9 = col10+col11+col12; and each subtotal row (Mining, Transportation..., Services) equals the column sums of the detail rows above it. All checks pass, so the column assignments above are reliable despite the very narrow printed columns. Cells where the raw scan was ambiguous and the reading was settled by these cross-checks: Coal mining col6 (reads 0, not 2), Crude petroleum and natural gas production col6 (0) and col8 (1), and the last three columns of the four mining rows (Metal 0/2/0, Coal 0/1/1, Crude 0/0/2, Nonmetallic 1/0/0). Typographic artifacts in the scan, not part of the values: a stray dot prints immediately after 431 in the Construction row (col9); the Other transportation row shows ".28" in col3, where the leading dot is a leader/speck and the value is 28. In footnote 2 the colon after "Source" and the periods in "U.S." are very faint in this scan; they are rendered here with conventional punctuation. Footnote markers 1 and 2 refer to the table caption/column headings on the preceding page and are not attached to anything inside this crop.
