Reader’s notes

p. 33. The crop is a full text page whose only tabular matter is the data panel printed beneath the bar chart labelled "Chart 14" (chart title "CASES CLOSED"); the body text above it and the chart's y-axis scale labels (0 to 33,000) are not part of the table and are omitted. The stub labels are the chart legend entries: a solid-black key for "C CASES" and a horizontally hatched key for "R, UD, AC, AND UC CASES" (printed on three lines, joined here); the legend swatches themselves carry no text. "Fiscal Year" is the printed stub heading for the row of year labels on the chart's x-axis. Scan speckle leaves a stray tick before the 1963 "C CASES" value (reads "|3,605" = 13,605) and before the 1968 "R, UD, AC, AND UC CASES" value (reads "¯12,973" = 12,973); both are page noise, not footnote markers. Every printed TOTALS figure equals the sum of the two component rows above it in its column, so the column alignment is independently verified.
