- 1 "Proceedings" are comparable to "cases" reported in annual reports prior to fiscal year 1964. This term more accurately describes the data inasmuch as a single "proceeding" often includes more than one "case". See "Glossary" for definition of terms.
- 2 A proceeding in which the Board had entered an order dismissing the complaint and the charging party appealed such dismissal in the court of appeals.
- 3 The Board appeared as amicus curiae in two cases. Vaca, et al. v. Sipes, 386 U.S. 171, and Corvallis Sand & Gravel Co., et al. v. Hoisting & Portable Engineers Local Union No. 701, et al., 387 U.S. 904, certiorari denied. The position supported by the Board was sustained in both cases.

Twelve columns: stub, five under "Number of proceedings^1" (Total; Vs. employers only; Vs. unions only; Vs. both employers and unions; Board dismissal^2), four under "Percentages" (Vs. employers only; Vs. unions only; Vs. both employers and unions; Board dismissal), and Number/Percent under "July 5, 1935–June 30, 1967". The stub column carries no printed heading, so cell 0 of each heading level is empty. Scan quality: the halftone has dropped or faded many periods. Decimal points are often printed with a following space ("100. 0") or are invisible ("100 0", "61 5", "14 7", "17 1", "19 9", "1 0", "40 0", "75 0", "62 3", "100 0"); these are transcribed with the decimal point restored, consistent with the arithmetic (all row and column sums and every percentage check out against the printed figures). Likewise the abbreviation "Vs." prints without its period in several headings ("Vs both employers and unions" in the Number block, "Vs unions only" in the Percentages block) and the first row label reads "U S. courts of appeals"; these are given as "Vs." and "U.S." The same faint-period issue affects the footnote text, where sentence periods after "1964", "certiorari denied" and "both cases" are not visible on the scan. Cells shown as dash rules or left blank (the percentage columns on the two "Proceedings decided by" lead lines, the contempt block, and the all-zero Supreme Court rows) are transcribed as empty strings. In the contempt rows and the last two Supreme Court rows the dash rule begins at the "Board dismissal" number column, so that cell is empty there, whereas the Supreme Court rows above it print an explicit 0. The bottom edge of the crop clips the final line of footnote 2; the wording is still legible and is given in full. A stray ink mark sits in the "Board dismissal" percentage column beside the 1,969 row and another above the "Fiscal year 1967" rule; neither is a character.
