  1. 1 See "Glossary" for definition of terms. Data in this table are based upon unfair labor practice cases that were closed during fiscal year 1967 after the company and/or union had satisfied all remedial action requirements.
  2. 2 A single case usually results in more than one remedial action; therefore, the total number of actions exceeds the number of cases involved.

239 of 242 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out. 3 cells break a sum: 'A. By number of cases involved', column 2: prints 5,339, the subtotals in columns 3 to 9 add to 0; 'From both employer and union', column 2: prints 50, the subtotals in columns 3 to 9 add to 100; 'From both employer and union', column 2: prints 136, the subtotals in columns 3 to 9 add to 272.

Reader’s notes

p. 235. 14 columns: stub, "Total all", six Employer columns, six Union columns (the Employer and Union panels are the same table, divided by a double rule, not separate panels of repeated headings). Row "A. By number of cases involved" carries a small raised 2 printed immediately before the figure 5,339 in the "Total all" column; transcribed as 5,339^2. The caption also carries a raised 1, but the caption is excluded. Rows where a remedy applies to only one party have dotted dash rules across the other party's six columns (e.g. the Union columns of "Recognition or other assistance withdrawn", the Employer columns of "Picketing ended"); these are given as "". The crop ends just below the "Other remedies" row at the bottom rule, so no footnote text is visible on this image (the texts of markers 1 and 2 must be on the continuation), and section B of the table, if any, is not shown. All printed row sums are internally consistent (each party's five detail columns sum to that party's Total, and the two party totals sum to "Total all"), which supports the digit readings; no misprints detected.

p. 236. Continuation page: no column headings are printed on this crop, so header_rows is empty. The grid has 14 columns (stub + 13 values): a left block of 7 columns and a right block of 6 columns, separated by a double vertical rule but sharing the single stub on the left — this is one panel, not two side-by-side panels. Arithmetic cross-checks confirm the column assignment: in every row with values, columns 3-7 sum to column 2, columns 9-13 sum to column 8, and columns 2 + 8 sum to column 1 (e.g. 3,383+113+168+374+236 = 4,274; 31,920+4,810+7,050+22,420+49,040 = 115,240; 3,171,220+115,240 = 3,286,460). The rows "Employees receiving backpay:" and "Employees reimbursed for fees, dues, and fines:" are label-only lines with no values printed. Dashed rules (which I have transcribed as empty cells) fill the right block for the reinstatement/Accepted/Declined/preferential-hiring-list rows and the left block (columns 2-7) for "Hiring hall rights restored" and "Objections to employment withdrawn". Doubtful readings: (1) the row label at "From either employee or union" (the backpay row) appears to read "employee", not "employer", while the parallel fees row below clearly reads "From either employer or union"; this looks like a misprint in the original, and I have transcribed it as printed. (2) The marker on the second footnote is a small raised glyph I could not resolve between 2 and 3 at this scan resolution; since footnote 1 is the only other note printed, I rendered it as 2. A stray speck of ink sits just above the "115,730" cell in the Backpay row (column 4); it is not a footnote marker or digit.
