Reader’s notes
p. 199. LAYOUT: the page prints this table as two side-by-side panels sharing one set of column headings. I transcribed them into a single panel's three columns, all left-panel rows (sections A and B through 8(b)(1)(3)(6)) first, then all right-panel rows (the 8(b) recapitulation through section C). The heading row is given once. DECIMAL POINTS: in the "Percent of total cases" column the decimal point drops out of this 1-bit scan in roughly half the cells, which print as e.g. "8 0", "66 1", "34 3", "100 0". Every such cell is a one-decimal percentage, and each one I restored checks out against its own count divided by the relevant total, so I wrote them with the point (8.0, 66.1, 34.3, 100.0). No digits were changed. SUSPECTED MISPRINT: 8(b)(4) appears twice with the same count, 1,692, but two different percentages — 34.3 in the "Subsections of Sec. 8(b)" list (left panel) and 34.2 in the 8(b) RECAPITULATION (right panel). 1,692/4,941 = 34.2 percent, so the left panel's 34.3 looks like the printing error; both are transcribed as printed. A smaller inconsistency: 8(b)(6) shows 12 cases at 0.3 percent where 12/4,941 rounds to 0.2; also transcribed as printed. STUB STRUCTURE: "Subsections of Sec. 8(a):" and "Subsections of Sec. 8(b):" are printed on their own lines above an indented "Total cases" line that carries the leader dots and the values, so I treated each as a label-only section row rather than folding it into the "Total cases" label. The colon after "Sec. 8(b)" is faint in the scan and could be a period. MARKERS: the three "RECAPITULATION" section lines and the first recapitulation's "8(a)(1)" carry raised footnote markers 1 and 2, written behind carets. The raised 2 is set tight against "8(a)(1)" and is a marker, not part of the subsection number. MINOR: a stray comma-like speck sits in the percent column beside the 8(b)(1)(5) row and another above the footnotes near the panel rule; both read as scan dirt, not printed characters. All left-panel counts were cross-checked against their recapitulation subtotals (8(a)(2)-(5) and 8(b)(1)-(6)) and the 8(b)(4)/8(b)(7) analysis subtotals, and every one sums correctly, which makes digit errors in the count column unlikely.
