Reader’s notes
p. 208. Scan quality: periods and other fine punctuation are largely lost in this 1-bit scan. In the percent columns the decimal points print as faint gaps (e.g. the image reads "68 2", "31 8", "67 8", "32 2", "76 7", "23 3", "72 2", "27 8"); these are decimal fractions and are transcribed as 68.2, 31.8, 67.8, 32.2, 76.7, 23.3, 72.2, 27.8. Likewise the sentence-ending periods in the two footnotes are not legible in the scan and have been restored where the sense is unambiguous (notably between "were sustained" and "In 63 elections" in footnote 2). Row labels print with a visible gap after the first letter ("R C elections", "R M elections", "R D elections"); these are the standard case types RC, RM and RD and are transcribed closed up. The footnote marker 2 on the "Sustained" heading is a raised digit, recorded as Sustained^2. All printed figures are internally consistent: the three election-type rows sum to the "All elections" row in every column, filed minus withdrawn equals ruled upon in each row, and overruled plus sustained equals ruled upon. The caption's footnote marker 1 attaches to "1965" in the title, which is excluded from this grid.
