Reader’s notes

p. 196. 14 columns: stub, "Total all", six Employer columns, six Union columns. Rows where a half of the table does not apply are filled with dash rules in the source; those are transcribed as "". Scan quality is poor (speckled 1-bit scan), so several readings were checked against the table's own arithmetic; every row and every column total reconciles exactly, which supports the digits given. Specific doubtful cells, all resolved by arithmetic: - "Work stoppage ended", Union/Court: the glyph is printed with an adjacent speck that could read as "1o"; 176+3+0+4+1 = 184 confirms it is 1. - "Backpay ... ", Employer/Formal settlement: printed as "-104, 560" with a leading mark that is a leader-dot artifact, not a minus sign; read as 104,560 (104,560+450 = 105,010). - "Backpay ...", Union/Formal settlement "-6, 720" and Union/Recommendation "--- 2,220": same leader-dot artifacts; read as 6,720 and 2,220. - "Objections to employment withdrawn" (section B), Union/Board: printed as "--- 208"; read as 208 (233+21+16+208+12 = 490). - Section C first row, Union/Recommendation and Union/Court print as "$2; 220" and "$46; 600"; the semicolons are degraded digit-grouping commas, so $2,220 and $46,600. Label punctuation: the period after the section letters is clear only for "B."; it is faint for "A" and "C" and has been rendered uniformly as "A.", "B.", "C.". The stub label "Employees reimbursed for fees, dues, and fines," ends in what appears to be a comma; it may be a degraded colon. Terminal periods in the two footnotes are faint in the scan and have been written as normal sentence punctuation. The caption's footnote marker 1 belongs to the omitted caption line.
