- 1 The term "collective-bargaining election" is used to cover representation elections requested by a union or other candidate for employee representative or by the employer. This term is used to distinguish this type of election from a decertification election, which is one requested by employees seeking to revoke the representation rights of a union which is already certified or which is recognized by the employer without a Board certification.
- 2 Elections involving 2 unions of different affiliations are counted under each affiliation, but only once in the total. Therefore, the total is less than the sum of the figures of the 2 groupings by affiliation.

p. 190. 11 columns: stub plus 3 under "Elections participated in", 3 under "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)" (with "Number"/"Percent of total eligible" nested under "Employees in units selecting bargaining agent"), and 4 under "Valid votes cast" (with "Number"/"Percent of total cast" nested under "Cast for the union"). Note that "Percent of total eligible" appears twice, as column 6 (under Employees involved) and as column 8 (under Valid votes cast). Punctuation is badly faded throughout this scan. Several percent cells show only a gap where the decimal point is printed: Total row "59 0", "54. 3", "90. 3", "59 9"; AFL-CIO "43 2", "90 3", "48 6"; Unaffiliated "45 0", "89 7", "48 3". All are one-decimal percentages and are transcribed with the decimal point restored; each is consistent with the counts in the same row (e.g. 4,052/6,871 = 59.0; 265,747/489,365 = 54.3; 264,727/441,969 = 59.9). In the AFL-CIO row, the "Employees in units selecting bargaining agent / Number" cell appears in the scan as "172. 415", i.e. the digit-grouping comma reads like a period. It is transcribed as 172,415, which is consistent with the 43.2 percent of 399,133 printed beside it. The raised 2 in the Total row precedes the values in three columns (6,871, 489,365 and 441,969) and is recorded as a trailing ^2 marker in each. Footnote 1's marker is attached to "Elections" in the caption, which is omitted per instructions. Sentence-ending periods in footnote 1 (after "employer" and "certification") and footnote 2 (after "total" and "affiliation") are invisible in the scan and have been restored.
