Reader’s notes

p. 295. Five columns: stub plus Number/Percent under each of the two date spans. The stub has no printed heading, so cell 0 of both heading levels is empty. "Cases decided by U.S. Supreme Court", column "Number" (July 1, 1961-June 30, 1962): printed as ".8" — a stray dot (a leftover leader dot or ink speck) sits immediately before the 8. Transcribed as 8, which is also what the five Supreme Court sub-rows below it sum to (6+0+0+0+2). Similar stray specks appear before "75.0" and before "20.2"; both ignored as print noise. "Remanded to court of appeals", column "Number" (July 1, 1961-June 30, 1962): printed "*2" with the asterisk preceding the digit; recorded as the footnote marker 2^*. Row label "Board orderd set aside" is a misprint for "Board orders set aside"; transcribed as printed. Likewise the footnote reads "futher" for "further"; transcribed as printed. Percent values for the second Supreme Court panel do not sum exactly to 100.0 (61.9+9.2+16.9+2.1+7.7+.8+.7+.7 = 100.0 as printed is fine; the appeals-court column sums to 100.0 as well). Numbers transcribed as printed with no arithmetic applied.
