Reader’s notes

p. 285. 15 columns: stub plus 7 case-type panels of "Number of cases" / "Percent of cases closed". Decimal points in the percent columns reproduce very faintly in this scan (e.g. "100 0", "83 7"); they are printed and are transcribed as "100.0", "83.7", etc. Sub-1-percent values are printed without a leading zero (".8", ".6"), as is visible unambiguously in the CE column (".0"). All readings were cross-checked: each count column sums exactly to its printed total (13,319 / 8,910 / 2,631 / 1,027 / 308 / 45 / 398) and each percent column sums exactly to 100.0, which resolved two doubtful glyphs — CB "Before issuance of complaint" percent is 84.0 (not 81.0), and CB "After issuance of complaint" percent is 2.9. Two printed percents differ slightly from the ratio of the printed counts but are transcribed as printed and are what make their columns total 100.0: CP "After hearing opened..." = .6 (2/398 = .5) and CA "After Supreme Court action" = .3 (22/8,910 = .2). The CD count on the "Before issuance of complaint" row carries a raised 3 printed to the left of the figure, recorded as 299^3. In the zero-count cells the percent is printed sometimes as "0" and sometimes as ".0"; each is transcribed as it appears. A stray ink mark precedes "54" in the All C column of the last row; the value is 54.
