  1. 1 A single case may include allegations of violations of more than one section of the Act. Therefore, the total of the various allegations is more than the figures for total cases
  2. 2 An 8(a)(1) is a general provision forbidding any type of employer interference with the rights of the employees guaranteed by the Act, and therefore is included in all charges of employer unfair labor practices.

0 of 24 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 277. Layout: the table is printed as two side-by-side panels sharing one set of column headings (stub | Number of cases showing specific allegations | Percent of total cases), repeated at the left and right of the page. Each lettered section A-D occupies its own band of the page with its own left and right panel, so the rows are given here as: section line, then that section's left-panel rows, then its right-panel rows. The column headings are printed only once (in band A, above section A's data) and are given once in header_rows. The stub column has no printed heading. Percent column: in this scan many of the decimal points in the percent column failed to print or were lost in reproduction, so cells read e.g. "100 0", "75 3", "2 6", "47 9", "6 9", "33 2", "9 4", "71 4", "3 9", "23 4", "14 4", "29 2", "61 9". Neighbouring cells in the same column (7.5, 39.9, 24.9, 9.6, .3, .5) show the decimal point clearly, and every value is consistent with the printed case counts divided by the section total, so these have been transcribed with the decimal point restored. No digits were altered. Footnote markers 1 and 2 are printed as raised digits to the LEFT of the values in the "Total cases", 8(a)(1), "Total cases 8(b)(4)" and "Total cases 8(b)(7)" rows; per instructions they are written after the value behind a caret. Section D heading: the raised/parenthesised letter in "UNDER SEC. 8(e)" is ambiguous in the scan and could be read as "8(c)", but the body row below it reads "Total cases 8(e)" and 8(e) is the statutory provision applying to both unions and employers, so "8(e)" is transcribed in both places. Section C heading begins with a letter that images as "O." but is the sequence letter "C."; transcribed as "C.". Section D's right-hand panel is printed empty (ruled but with no label or values); no rows were created for it. A short horizontal rule separates the "Total cases" row from the detail rows in panels A, B and C; it is a rule, not a data row. Footnote 1 ends without a terminal period as printed.
