0 of 18 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.
p. 244. The scan is a coarse 1-bit image in which decimal points and many digit-grouping commas have dropped out; percentage cells print as e.g. "56 1" and several large numbers as e.g. "403 310", "239 693", "158 046", "81 647", "172 617". I have restored the decimal points and thousands commas, since every percent column in this table is printed to one decimal place and the spaced numerals are plainly thousands groups. Doubtful cells: - Total row, "Elections participated in / Total" and "Valid votes cast / Total": the raised marker before the figure is legibly a 2. The matching marker before 450,930 ("Employees involved / Total eligible") is faint and could be read as 1; I have transcribed all three as ^2 because footnote 2 (double-counted elections) is what explains all three totals falling below the sum of the two affiliation rows. - AFL-CIO, "Elections participated in / Total": read as 4,237, but 2,170 / 4,237 = 51.2 percent, not the 50.6 printed in the "Percent won" column; 2,170 / 4,287 = 50.6 exactly, so the middle digit may be a degraded 8 rather than a 3 (or the printed percent is a misprint). Transcribed as read. - Unaffiliated, "Employees involved / Total eligible": the fourth digit is a broken glyph that could be 0 or 6. Read as 196,670, which is what reconciles with the printed 87.8 percent of total eligible (172,617 / 196,670 = 87.8; 196,070 would give 88.0). - AFL-CIO row label is printed "AFL-CIO"; the scan renders the I and O indistinctly. All other internal checks pass: won figures (2,170 + 1,393 = 3,563), employees in units selecting a bargaining agent (156,564 + 72,719 = 229,283) and votes cast for the union (158,046 + 81,647 = 239,693) add exactly to the Total row, and the three footnote-2 totals are below the sums of the two affiliation rows as the footnote describes. The caption's footnote 1 marker is attached to "Collective-Bargaining Elections" in the title, which is excluded from the grid.
