Reader’s notes
p. 243. Seven columns; "Type of election" spans the last five. The scan is a heavily degraded bitonal image: periods and some digit-grouping commas have dropped out ("471 260", "18 364", "130 983"), and raised footnote digits 2, 3 and 5 all render as a blob resembling "8". The marker sequence is fixed by the five footnotes printed under the table, so I have written them as ^1 ^2 ^3 ^4 ^5; dropped commas are restored and sentence periods in the footnotes are restored (commas survive in the scan, periods do not). Four cells read ambiguously on screen and were resolved by cross-footing; in each the printed glyph appeared to me as a "0" but both the row sum and the column sum independently require a different digit, and with these readings every row and every column of the table balances exactly: (a) RO cases, total / Stipulated reads like "1,507" but is 1,597 (RO row 2,810+1,597+1,623+12 = 6,042; Stipulated column 1,597+67+49+0 = 1,713); (b) Valid votes / RM cases / Consent reads like "4,702" but is 4,792 (RM row = 12,849; Consent column = 127,315); (c) Eligible voters / UD cases / Consent reads like "1,780" but is 1,786 (UD row = 1,966; Consent column = 142,428); (d) Eligible voters, total / Expedited elections reads like "1,150" but is 1,156 (column 858+289+9+0 = 1,156; total row 142,428+171,520+155,983+173+1,156 = 471,260). Nothing else was altered, and no printed total appears to be in error. The Regional director directed column is a dash rule (transcribed as "") for all of the RO, RM and RD lines; the UD section carries the only values there.
