p. 19. The image is not a conventional statistical table: it is Chart No. 2, "CASES CLOSED", a stacked bar chart with four bars (fiscal 1958-1961). The only tabular matter is the legend/data panel printed beneath the bars, which is what the grid above transcribes. The stub column holds the legend labels (C CASES, R & UD CASES, TOTALS) and the four data columns are the fiscal-year labels printed under the bars, which serve as the column headings. Two elements of the printed panel are deliberately not given columns: (a) at the far left of the C CASES and R & UD CASES rows there is a small key swatch (a solid black square and a horizontally striped square) matching the bar shading, which is a graphical key rather than a data cell; (b) the chart's vertical axis is labelled CASES with gridline values 25,000 / 22 500 / 20,000 / 17,500 / 15,000 / 12,500 / 10,000 / 7,500 / 5,000 / 2,500 / 0 (the 22,500 and 10,000 labels are printed with a damaged comma/zero, reading "22 500" and "1O,000"), which belongs to the chart, not to the data panel. The data panel is set in a heavy, partly broken display face, so several digits are ambiguous on their own; every reading given is confirmed by arithmetic and by the surrounding text. Column sums: 7,289+7,490=14,779; 11,465+8,890=20,355; 11,924+10,259=22,183; 12,116+10,289=22,405, all matching the printed TOTALS line, and the 1961 total agrees with the sentence above the chart ("a record 22,405 cases were closed"). Typesetting leaves stray spacing and a comma that prints like a period in "7, 289" and "14. 779"; these are rendered as 7,289 and 14,779 per the digit-grouping rule. In the 1959 and 1960 columns the thousands comma of "11,465", "8,890", "11,924" and "10,259" is partly filled in by the bold face; the 1961 "12,116" and "10,289" are the faintest cells on the page but are fixed by the total. Not transcribed, as instructed: the running head ("6 Twenty-sixth Annual Report of the National Labor Relations Board"), the caption lines "Chart No 2" and "CASES CLOSED", and the narrative paragraphs above and below the chart. For context only, the paragraph below the chart reports 22,691 new cases filed, 12,132 unfair labor practice charges, 10,559 representation election cases and 51 UD petitions; those figures are new filings, not the closings charted here, and are not part of this table.
