- 1 Sec. 8(a)(3) of the act requires that to revoke a union-shop provision a majority of the employees eligible to vote must vote in favor of deauthorization.

Reader’s notes
p. 183. 15 columns: stub + 5 under "Number of polls" + 5 under "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)" + 4 under "Valid votes cast". The scan drops many periods: several percent cells print as e.g. "62 5", "30 2", "66 7", "50 0", "69 5", "92 8", "90 9", "27 7", "83 3", "70 7" with a gap where the decimal point sits; they are transcribed with the decimal point, since every such value is consistent with the adjacent counts (10/16 = 62.5, 971/1,068 = 90.9, etc.). The trailing period of the footnote sentence is likewise faint/absent in the scan and has been supplied. A small stray ink speck sits in the "Number of polls / Total" column on the AFL-CIO row, left of the figure 12; it is an artifact, not a footnote marker. All component figures add to the printed totals and all printed percentages agree with the counts, so no misprints are suspected.
