88 of 88 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.
p. 172. Six columns: stub plus Total, AFL-CIO affiliates, Unaffiliated unions, Individuals, Employers. The stub column has no printed heading, so the stub cells of the three heading levels are empty. "Number of cases" spans all five value columns; "Total" is a tall heading spanning heading levels 2 and 3; "Identification of complainant as petitioner" spans the last four columns. The four section lines ("All cases^1", "Unfair labor practice cases", "Representation cases", "Union shop deauthorization cases") are printed as centered banners across the value columns and carry no values. In the Unfair labor practice section, row "Pending June 30, 1959", column Individuals, the thousands separator is printed as a low dot rather than a comma ("2. 938"); transcribed as 2,938, which is confirmed by the row sum 1,229+478+2,938+780 = 5,425. In the Union shop deauthorization section the Employers column holds dash rules on all five rows, transcribed as empty. All row sums and the cross-section sums (unfair labor practice + representation + union shop deauthorization = all cases) agree with the printed totals; no misprints in the figures. Footnote 1's item markers are partly worn: "CC" and "CD" are followed by a single raised dot that is most likely a colon (transcribed as a colon), and "RC" shows no punctuation after the letters. The caption, the running head "Statistical Tables for Fiscal Year 1959", and the page number (161, partly cut off at the foot) are omitted.
