Reader’s notes

p. 169. This is a single table with two side-by-side column groups under one stub ("Union affiliation"), not two panels of rows, so each row carries all 10 values. Punctuation lost to the scan: in the two "Percent casting valid votes" columns the decimal points did not reproduce and print as a gap ("90 2", "89 1", "90 2", "89 9", "88 9", "90 8"); they are transcribed as 90.2, 89.1, 90.2, 89.9, 88.9, 90.8. Likewise the Total row's "Votes cast for no union" cell under "Elections in which a representative was redesignated" prints as "1 811" with no visible comma; transcribed as 1,811. Both readings are consistent with the column arithmetic (AFL-CIO 1,779 + Unaffiliated 32 = 1,811; 5,074/5,625 = 90.2 percent, 4,008/4,499 = 89.1 percent). All eight numeric columns add exactly from the AFL-CIO and Unaffiliated rows to the Total row, so no misprint is suspected. The scan renders many "i" dots faintly in the headings ("in which", "resulting in", "union", "valid"), but the heading wording is unambiguous.
