  1. 1 The term "collective-bargaining election" is used to cover representation elections requested by a union or other candidate for employee representative or by the employer. This term is used to distinguish this type of election from a decertification election, which is one requested by employees seeking to revoke the representation rights of a union which is already certified or which is recognized by the employer without a Board certification
  2. 2 Elections involving 2 unions of different affiliations are counted under each affiliation, but only once in the total. Therefore, the total is less than the sum of the figures or the 2 groupings by affiliation.

0 of 18 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 167. 11 columns: stub plus 3 under "Elections participated in", 3 under "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)", and 4 under "Valid votes cast". Decimal points: in this scan the period in the one-decimal percentage figures is mostly dropped, so the cells print as e.g. "60 8", "55 9", "89 8". Only "57.3" in the Unaffiliated / Percent won cell shows the point clearly. I have written all of these percentages with a decimal point; each is confirmed arithmetically against the counts in the same row (e.g. 2,636/4,337 = 60.8, 196,334/351,217 = 55.9). Likewise the thousands comma in "35,561" (Unaffiliated, Valid votes cast / Cast for the union / Number) is faint-to-absent in the scan, printing as "35 561"; 35,561/72,037 = 49.4 matches the printed percent, so the comma reading is secure. Footnote 1 ends without a printed period after "certification". Footnote 2: the word between "the sum of the figures" and "the 2 groupings" is printed ambiguously; I read it as "or", though the sense calls for "for". The character is not resolvable at this resolution. The raised 2 in the Total row is printed to the left of 4,337, 351,217 and 315,428; transcribed as a trailing marker per convention. The footnote 1 marker belongs to the caption (excluded), not to any cell in the grid.
