- 1 Sec. 8 (a) (3) of the act requires that, to revoke a union-shop provision, a majority of the employees eligible to vote must vote in favor of deauthorization.

Reader’s notes
p. 184. 15 columns: stub + 5 under "Number of polls" + 5 under "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)" + 4 under "Valid votes cast". Three heading levels; "Total", "Total eligible" and the "Percent of total eligible" column of "Valid votes cast" are tall single headings repeated down the levels, as is the stub heading. In this scan the decimal points in most percentage cells are faint or dropped, so they appear as a space (e.g. "64 3", "35 7", "69 2", "30 8", "28 7", "77 2", "63 6", "54 5"). All such cells are one-decimal percentages and are transcribed with the decimal point. Every one checks out against the counts in the same row (9/14 = 64.3, 695/1,004 = 69.2, 684/960 = 71.3, 33/44 = 75.0, etc.), and the component figures sum to their totals in every column, so the reading is not in doubt. Row label 2 is printed with letter-spacing and an en-dash ("A F L–CIO"); transcribed as "AFL-CIO". Nothing appears cut off by the crop.
