Reader’s notes

p. 196. Five printed columns: stub plus Number/Percent under each of the two period headings. The two unlabeled section rows ("Cases decided by United States courts of appeals" and "Cases decided by United States Supreme Court") are total lines for the indented rows that follow them, and both sets of components add to their totals in all four columns. Decimal points: in this 1-bit scan the period in many percent values is faint or dropped, so the cells read as e.g. "100 0", "59 8", "13 7", "43 0", "11 3", "10 3". All percentages in this table are printed to one decimal place, and each column's components sum to 100.0 on that reading, so I have written them with the decimal point. Values where the point is clearly visible in the image: 2.1, .7, 17.4, 100.0 (Supreme Court, col. 2), 43.0 (Board orders enforced in full), 69.1, 1.0, 6.3, 14.0. The footnote marker 1 is printed as a raised digit immediately before the figures 95 and 57 in the first Number column; I have moved it behind a caret after the value. The "11" in the second Number column for "Board orders partially enforced and partially remanded" is a value, not a marker. Cells shown as a dash rule (the Supreme Court rows with no entry in the 1955-56 columns) are transcribed as empty.
