Reader’s notes

p. 190. Eleven columns: stub plus two five-column panels ("Elections in which a representative was redesignated" and "Elections resulting in decertification"); the two panels are parts of one row of columns, not side-by-side panels of repeated rows, so each row carries all ten values. In the two "Percent casting valid votes" columns the decimal point did not survive the scan — the values read as "93 6", "88 6", "93 2", "93 5", "94 2", "98 1", "92 1", "87 3", "86 7", "94 9". They are transcribed with the decimal point ("93.6", etc.) on the strength of the spacing and of these being one-decimal percentages; the glyph itself is not visible. The stub label printed as "A F L" with letterspacing is given as "AFL". Row labels AFL and CIO each carry a raised 1, AFL-CIO a raised 2. All eight value columns sum from the four affiliation rows exactly to the printed "Total" row, which supports the digit reading throughout.
