Reader’s notes

p. 190. Decimal points in the percent columns are nearly invisible in this scan: most percents are printed as e.g. "31 0", "69 0", "50 4" with a faint or dropped period, while "53.7" (Total elections, Percent of total cast) shows its period clearly. They are one-decimal percentages and have been transcribed with the decimal point (31.0, 69.0, 50.4, ...). All of them check out arithmetically against the counts in the same row (e.g. 40/129 = 31.0, 36/48 = 75.0, 1,970/5,479 = 36.0), so the reading is not in doubt. In the CIO row, "Cast for the union: Number" is printed as "1. 188" — the digit-grouping comma reads as a period in the scan; it is 1,188 (and 1,188/2,666 = 44.6, matching the percent beside it). Transcribed as 1,188. The raised 1 on AFL and CIO and the raised 2 on AFL-CIO are footnote markers, recorded behind carets. All column sums are internally consistent: 48+47+26+8 = 129 elections; 2,278+5,479+2,996+536 = 11,289 eligible; 5,691+5,598 = 11,289. No misprints detected.
