Column assignment was checked by addition throughout: in every data row the five "won by" / "no representative" cells sum exactly to the row's Total, on both the elections side and the employees side (e.g. AFL-CIO v. AFL-CIO: 122 + 38 = 160 and 18,751 + 7,142 = 25,893), and the Total line sums to 4,946 and 462,712. No printed figure appears to be a misprint. Stub-label details: "1-union elections", "2-union elections" and "3-union elections" are each followed by a small mark read as a colon; the mark is lightly inked and on the 1-union line it sits high, like a raised dot. "4-union elections" shows no such mark. These marks are punctuation, not footnote references. Several "v." abbreviations are printed without a visible period, and they are transcribed as seen: "AFL v CIO v. CIO" (first v), "CIO v. CIO v unaffiliated" (second v), "AFL v AFL v. CIO v. unaffiliated" (second v), and "5-union elections AFL v. AFL v AFL v. AFL v. CIO" (third v). The period may simply have failed to print. The last body line is a single data row, not a section heading: the section label "5-union elections" and the only member of that section, "AFL v. AFL v AFL v. AFL v. CIO", are run together on one line that carries values; it is kept as one row label. Footnote 3's marker is a raised 3 that in this scan closely resembles an 8; it is read as 3 because it matches the "AFL-CIO affiliates^3" column heading. Footnote 3 is printed in a second column to the right of footnotes 1-2 and ends without a period. The caption carries a footnote marker (reference 1 on "Elections"); the caption itself is omitted per instructions, but footnote 1 is retained.
