  1. 1 The term "collective-bargaining election" is used to cover representation elections requested by a union or other candidate for employee representative or by the employer. This term is used to distinguish this type of election from a decertification election, which is one requested by employees seeking to revoke the representation rights of a union which is already certified or which is recognized by the employer without a Board certification.
  2. 2 Elections involving two or more unions of different affiliations are counted under each affiliation, but only once in the total. Therefore, the total is less than the sum of the figures for the three groupings by affiliation.

0 of 24 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 185. The scan is a coarse bitonal image in which small punctuation frequently drops out. Decimal points in all percent columns are invisible or reduced to a gap in the image (printed as e.g. "67 6", "87 9"); they are transcribed as decimal points ("67.6", "87.9"), which is consistent with every percentage being the correct ratio of the two numbers in its row (e.g. 2,849/4,215 = 67.6, 335,393/453,442 = 74.0). The Total-row "Cast for the union / Number" cell images as "335. 393" with what looks like a period; it is a digit-grouping comma, 335,393, confirmed by 138,636 + 123,320 + 73,437 = 335,393. The raised 2 before 4,215, 515,995 and 453,442 in the Total row is footnote marker 2, moved behind a caret. Row labels "A. F. L." and "C. I. O." lose some of their periods in the scan (they image roughly as "A. F L" and "C. I O"); they are given in the conventional printed form. In footnote 2 the word before "the three groupings" images as "or"; it is almost certainly "for" with the initial f dropped by the scan, and is transcribed that way. Sentence-ending periods in both footnotes are likewise faint or missing in the image and have been restored. Column headings read "Pei cent won" and "Numbei" in the scan; transcribed as "Percent won" and "Number".
