  1. 1 The term "collective-bargaining election" is used to cover representation elections requested by a union or other candidate for employee representative or by the employer. This term is used to distinguish this type of election from a decertification election, which is one requested by employees seeking to revoke the representation rights of a union which is already certified or which is recognized by the employer without a Board certification.
  2. 2 Elections involving 2 or more unions of different affiliations are counted under each affiliation, but only once in the total. Therefore, the total is less than the sum of the figures or the 3 groupings by affiliation.

0 of 24 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 177. Scan artifact: this 1-bit scan systematically drops small round dots — visible in the headings ("participated ın", "unıts", "Employees ın") and in footnote text ("whıch ıs"). The same loss affects decimal points and sentence periods. Several percent cells therefore print as a bare space between the digits: Total row "65 6", "67 1"; A. F. L. "44 7", "48 0"; C. I. O. "45 6"; Unaffiliated "64 1", "85 0", "56 4". Because the neighbouring cells in the very same columns do show the point (58.2, 52.5, 87.9, 87.5, 89.5), these are one-decimal percentages and I have transcribed them with the decimal point restored (65.6, 67.1, 44.7, 48.0, 45.6, 64.1, 85.0, 56.4). No digits were changed. For the same reason the terminal periods in the stub labels "A. F. L." and "C. I. O." and the sentence period after "by the employer" in footnote 1 are faint or absent on the image and have been restored. Footnote marker: a raised 2 is printed immediately to the LEFT of three Total-row values (4,663; 511,430; 449,673); per instruction it is written after the value as ^2. Printed as-is, not corrected: the spanner over the last four columns reads "Valid votes casts" (apparently a misprint for "cast"). In footnote 2 the second line begins "or the 3 groupings by affiliation" where the sense requires "for the 3 groupings"; transcribed as it appears, but the leading letter may be clipped at the left margin of the crop. Column assignment is unambiguous here — every column rule is intact and all four body rows are fully populated.
