Reader’s notes

p. 177. 15 columns: stub, then 5 under "Number of polls", 5 under "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)", 4 under "Valid votes cast". In the percent columns the decimal point is often faint or dropped in the scan (e.g. "63 2", "23 9", "76 1", "93 8"); these are decimal percentages and are transcribed with a decimal point, consistent with the clearly printed ones ("96.1", "33.3", "6. 2"). All of them check out against the printed counts (e.g. 792/855 = 92.6), so no digits were lost. Row labels "A. F. L." and "C. I. O." are printed with spaced periods, kept as printed. Column and row totals are internally consistent (19 = 12 + 7 = 13 + 3 + 3; 855 = 204 + 651; 792 = 273 + 99 + 420; 378 = 134 + 52 + 192). A stray typesetting mark appears in the "Percent of total eligible" cell of the Total elections row, left of "92.6", and a stray dot left of "66 7" in the C. I. O. row; both read as printing artifacts, not footnote markers or digits.
