  1. 1 Consent elections are held by an agreement of all parties concerned. Post-election rulings and certifications are made by the regional director.
  2. 2 Stipulated elections are held by an agreement of all parties concerned, but the agreement provides for the Board to determine any objections and/or challenges
  3. 3 Board-ordered elections are held pursuant to a decision and direction of election by the Board. Post-election rulings on objections and/or challenges are made by the Board.
  4. 4 These elections are held pursuant to direction by the regional director. Post-election rulings on objections and/or challenges are made by the Board.
  5. 5 Excludes 39 elections conducted during the year for which the results were still inconclusive at the end of the year.
  6. 6 See table 1, footnote 1, for definitions of types of cases.

63 of 63 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 114. Six printed columns: stub, "Total elections", and four columns under the spanner "Type of election". The spanner is repeated across its four columns, and the tall single headings "Type of case" and "Total elections" are repeated on both heading levels. In the "All elections, total" row the superior 5 is printed to the LEFT of 6,208 in the "Total elections" column; it is the footnote 5 marker (footnote 5 explains the exclusion of 39 inconclusive elections), so it is transcribed as 6,208^5. The superior 6 in the row labels "RC cases,6 total", "RM cases,6 total", "RD cases,6 total" and "UD cases,6 total" is likewise a marker, placed after the comma as printed. The "Regional director directed" cells for the RC, RM and RD blocks (nine cells in all) hold dash rules in the original and are transcribed as "". No arithmetic was altered. For the record, every row and column in the body is internally consistent as printed (e.g. 3,284+921+1,990+13 = 6,208; the four case-type blocks sum to the three "total" rows), so no misprint is suspected. Scan quality: the page is a clean 300-ppi bitonal scan; a few i-dots are lost ("Eligible"/"Valid" print as "Eligible"/"Valid" with broken dots, "Stipulated" as "Stipu-lated"), but no digit was doubtful. The word "for" in footnote 2 is set in a heavier face in the scan, an artefact rather than emphasis; footnote 2 ends without a period, as printed.
