The crop stops after "District of Columbia"; the South Atlantic section and the remaining divisions continue below the crop, and the text of footnote 1 (marker on the stub heading "Division and State") is not visible on this image, so `footnotes` is empty. Missouri, "Against union-shop" column: printed as "410, 709" and transcribed as printed, but this is almost certainly a misprint for 10,709. Two independent checks give 10,709: the West North Central column total is 19,383 (6,458 + 10,709 + 15 + 2,201 = 19,383), and Missouri's own row identity holds only with 10,709 (102,398 + 46,912 + 24,585 + 10,709 = 184,604, the printed total valid votes). The leading "4" is either a typesetting error or a stray mark in the scan. Missouri, "A. F. L." column under "Number of polls": the digit-grouping mark is printed (or scanned) as a period, "2.965"; transcribed as "2,965" since the column sums correctly (1,097 + 2,965 + 333-group components give the printed 4,449 division total) and every other cell in the table uses a comma. Delaware, "Total" column under "Number of polls": a small stray apostrophe-like speck sits to the left of "65" in the scan; it is not a footnote marker and was not transcribed. Column headings "A. F. L." and "C. I. O." are set with wide letterspacing and the periods are faint; in the right-hand panel the heading reads closer to "C I. O." and in both panels the period after "A" is barely visible. They are transcribed in the conventional form. All other rows reconcile exactly: for every state, A.F.L. + C.I.O. + Unaffiliated + Union-shop rejected equals the printed poll total, and A.F.L. + C.I.O. + Unaffiliated (in favor) + Against union-shop equals the printed total valid votes; every division line equals the sum of its states (except the Missouri cell noted above).

Layout: each regional total line (East South Central, West South Central, Mountain, Pacific, Outlying areas) is printed ABOVE its constituent States, set off by double rules; the regional total line is less indented than the State lines. The first six rows (Virginia through Florida) are the tail of the preceding region (South Atlantic), whose total line falls on the previous page — the crop therefore begins mid-section. Arithmetic checks (not corrections — nothing was altered): in every row column 1 equals the sum of columns 2-5, and column 7 equals the sum of columns 8-11; every regional total equals the sum of its States in all 11 columns. No discrepancies found, which supports the column assignments. Stray marks from the scan, ignored as not part of any value: a short dash immediately left of "71" in the Tennessee row (col 7); a comma-like speck left of "0" in the Texas row (col 10); a dot after "3,666" in the Idaho row (col 8); an apostrophe-like speck in "12,534" (Utah, col 7) and before "937" (Hawaii, col 10); faint specks in the Kentucky row (col 6 area), the West South Central row (col 10, before "3,952") and the California row (col 3, before "401"). None of these is a footnote marker. A printer's signature "228330—53——21" is set vertically in the left margin outside the table and is omitted. The footnote marker preceding the footnote text is a raised 1; it refers to a column/caption element not present on this crop.
