Reader’s notes

p. 316. Three printed columns with a single heading level. Decimal points in the percent column print very faintly in this scan: several values read as a bare gap (\"100 0\", \"98 5\", \"86 5\", \"79 0\", \"2 2\", \"10 6\", \"0 1\" in the footnote) while others show the point clearly (1.4, .2, .1, 1.3); they are transcribed with the decimal point, consistent with the column's one-decimal alignment. The \"Stipulated election, union shop authorized\" percent cell shows only a right-aligned \"6\" in the tenths position with no visible leading point; it is transcribed \".6\" (338/53,381 = 0.6 percent, which supports the reading). Small specks appear to the right of the percent cells for \"Total number of cases closed\", \"Before formal action, total\" and \"After formal action, total\"; these are scan artifacts, not characters. The \"(*)\" entries are printed as a parenthesised asterisk referring to the footnote. All printed totals are internally consistent (46,145 + 5,654 + 766 + 20 = 52,585; 52,585 + 78 + 718 = 53,381; 4 + 3 = 7; 10 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 17; 7 + 2 + 25 + 27 + 17 = 78). Row indentation marks hierarchy but is not encoded in the grid; \"Closed by public law 189\" is transcribed with the printed lowercase wording.
