The four Winner sub-columns sit under a single spanning "Winner" heading; "Industrial group 1", "Number of elections", "Eligible voters" and "Valid votes cast" are tall single headings spanning both heading levels, so they are repeated in both. All arithmetic in the table is internally consistent as transcribed: each row's four winner counts sum to its number of elections; the manufacturing sub-industries (with Transportation equipment counted once, not its three sub-rows) sum to the Manufacturing line (65 elections, 4,853 eligible, 4,227 valid); and the six major-division lines sum to the Total line (93; 6,111; 5,350). No misprints detected. Doubtful/degraded cells: (a) Manufacturing row, Unaffiliated unions column — a small stray ink mark (resembling an apostrophe) sits just left of the printed 3; it is scanner dirt, not a footnote marker, and the value is 3. (b) "Nonmetal mining and quarrying" — the scan renders "quarrying" as "quari ying" from broken type; transcribed as the intended word. (c) The punctuation after "Source" and after "U" in footnote 1 is faint/broken in the scan; a colon and a period respectively are the most likely printed characters and were supplied. (d) Faint stray specks also appear in the left margin beside "Food and kindred products" and "Coal mining" and above the rule near the Mining row; none are footnote markers.
