Reader’s notes

p. 305. Seven printed columns: stub, Total^1, and the five "Identification of complainant" columns. The stub has no printed heading, so the stub cells of the three heading levels are empty; "Total^1" is a tall heading repeated down all three levels, and "Number of cases" / "Identification of complainant" are repeated across the five columns they span. The five section lines (NLRA—C cases, CA cases^2, CB cases^2, CC cases^2, CD cases^2) are printed as centred banners across the data columns and carry no values. Dash rules ("------") are transcribed as "": the whole "Cases received July 1, 1950–June 30, 1951" row in the NLRA—C section (every cell is a dash rule), and the Employers column for all ten rows of the NLRA—C and CA sections. In the CA section, "Cases closed July 1, 1950–June 30, 1951", column Total: a small raised 1 is printed to the left of the figure; I read it as a footnote marker and wrote it as 4,168^1. Its placement before rather than after the number is unusual, so this cell is the least certain on the page; the value 4,168 is confirmed by the row's components (1,639+915+464+1,150). Heading spellings are as printed, including the irregular punctuation of "A. F of L affiliates" (no period after F) and "C I O. affiliates" (period after O only). Footnote 2 is printed without a terminal period. The "Cases received" labels are set with a slightly longer dash in the NLRA—C section than elsewhere; I used the same en dash throughout. All other row totals cross-check against their components as printed; nothing was computed or corrected.
