Reader’s notes

p. 239. Nine columns: stub plus four two-column panels (All C cases; NLRA C cases; CA cases; Other C cases), each panel with "Number of cases" and "Percent of cases closed". DECIMAL POINTS: this is a 1-bit scan in which the decimal point of the percent columns is frequently lost; many cells render as e.g. "100 0", "90 8", "51 7". Every percent value in the printed table carries exactly one decimal place, and some cells in the same columns do show the point clearly ("90.3", "18.4", "24.4", "2.5", "9.8"). I have therefore written the point in every percent cell (e.g. "100 0" -> "100.0"); the digits are what I read, only the point is reconstructed. Values below 1 percent are printed in the source without a leading zero (".8", ".6"), and I kept that form, including for cells where the leading point did not survive the scan (e.g. "1" -> ".1", "2" -> ".2"). CELLS READING "(3)": these hold only a parenthesised raised 3, the footnote reference standing in for a value meaning "Less than 0.1 percent". I transcribed them as "(3)"; the 3 is a superscript footnote marker, not a digit of a value. DOUBTFUL CELLS (digits 2 and 3 are easily confused in this typeface at this scan quality, and the lost decimal points make a single-digit percent cell hard to resolve): - "Before 10 (k) hearing", All C cases / Percent: I read ".3"; the implied ratio (12 of 5,615) would be .2, so this is either a misread on my part or a misprint. Low confidence. - "Withdrawn" (the row under "Before 10 (k) hearing"), All C cases / Percent: I read ".2"; the implied ratio (6 of 5,615) would be .1. Low confidence. - "Withdrawn" (under "Before 10 (k) hearing"), Other C cases / Percent: I read ".4"; the "Adjusted" row immediately above also reads ".4" on a count of 5 against this row's count of 6, so one of the two is probably ".5". There is a stray ink mark just left of this cell. Low confidence. - "Dismissed" (the row under "After court action"), All C cases / Percent: I read ".2"; the count 15 reads ".3" elsewhere in the table (the "Order adopting intermediate report in absence of exceptions" row under "Dismissed, total"). Low confidence. - "Withdrawn" under "After hearing", NLRA C cases / Percent: read as ".0" on a count of 0; the other zero-count percent cells in that area render as plain "0", so the forms may not be distinguishable. Same caveat for the final "Closed otherwise" row, Other C cases / Percent, read as ".0". SUPERSCRIPT MARKERS placed behind a caret: "After 10 (k)^2 notice of hearing, total" (raised 2 on the "(k)"); "4^4" and "3^4" in the "Withdrawn" row under "After hearing" (raised 4 printed before the figure); "84^5" and "62^5" in "Compliance with consent decree" (raised 5 printed before the figure). The raised 1 on the NLRA, CA and Other panel headings is likewise written "^1". In the NLRA and CA panels the rows of the 10 (k) block are filled with dash rules or are blank; all are given as "". "After 10 (k) hearing", "After 10 (k) hearing and decision and determination of dispute:" and "After 10 (k) hearing and decision." are label-only section lines, each followed by its own indented data row; the trailing colon and full stop are as printed. Caption transcribed from the image but omitted per instructions: "Table 7.—Disposition of unfair labor practice cases closed, by stage and method, during fiscal year 1950".
