- 2 The figure for actions is less than the number of cases involved because a group of individual cases are sometimes consolidated for action. Where a NLRA case is consolidated with a LMRA case, or where a LMRA CA case is consolidated with another LMRA C case, it is counted once under each type of case and once in the total. Therefore the sum of the figures under each type of case may add up to more than the total for all formal actions.

p. 185. 15 columns: stub plus 7 two-column panels (All cases; NLRA C; LMRA C / CA; LMRA C / Other C; NLRA R; LMRA R; Union-authorization), each with "Number of cases" and "Formal actions^2". The stub column has no printed heading, so cell 0 of every header row is "". "Decisions issued:" is printed as a section line on its own, and the group's total figures (3,365 / 2,891 / ...) are printed on the next line with no row label at all. They are transcribed as two separate rows (row 5 label-only, row 6 values-only with an empty stub) because they sit on distinct printed lines; a reader may wish to treat row 6 as the unlabeled "Total" of the "Decisions issued" section. "Decisions and orders", All cases / Number of cases: printed as a raised 3 followed by 342, transcribed "342^3" per the footnote-marker convention. The footnote-3 text (44 cases decided by adoption of intermediate report) confirms the 3 is a marker and the value is 342; this is also confirmed by arithmetic (169 + 127 + 46 = 342). Cells shown as dashed rules in the original (e.g. the representation and union-authorization columns for "Complaints issued") are transcribed as "". Arithmetic check: every row's component "Number of cases" figures sum exactly to the printed "All cases" figure, every decision sub-row sums to the printed decisions total, and the "Formal actions" columns likewise reconcile within each case type. No apparent misprints. The only cross-total that does not add is "Notices of hearing issued" formal actions (14 + 9 + 1,686 + 8 = 1,717 vs. printed 1,713), which is exactly the consolidation effect described in footnote 2. Scan quality: several capital C's in the headings ("NLRA C cases", "LMRA C cases", "Other C cases") render ambiguously as O in this 1-bit scan; they are read as C on the basis of the surrounding case-type nomenclature and footnote 2, which spells out "LMRA CA case" and "LMRA C case". A sliver of the rotated running head is visible along the right edge of the crop, outside the table rules; it is not transcribed.
