Representation Cases

p. 157. This page is a case list (Appendix E), not a numeric table: two printed columns, the stub holding the case number and the second column the case name. No column headings are printed, so header_rows is empty. The two centered section lines "I. Unfair Labor Practice Cases" and "II. Representation Cases" are transcribed as label-only rows; the blank lines that separate alphabetical groups (A/B/C) within the representation list carry no label and are not transcribed as rows. The caption (APPENDIX E; CASES HEARD DURING THE PERIOD JULY 1—AUGUST 21, 1947) and the page number 149 are omitted. The list is cut off by the end of the page: it continues after "15M-R-106 Coca-Cola Bottling Co." Doubtful cells, all in the case-number column: "16-C-1935" (Super-Cold Southwest Co.) — the other 16-C numbers on the page run 1300-1318, so the serial may be a misprint or a misread of something like 1335, but 1935 is what the scan shows; "9I-R-1360" (Avco Mfg. Corp.) and "9I-R-1328" (Burnet-Binford Lumber Co., Inc.) — read as numeral 9 plus capital letter I (a subregional-office designation of the same form as the "15M-R" numbers lower on the page), though the pair could conceivably be "21-R"; "17-C-1477" (Fulton Bag & Cotton Mills) and "4-C-1743" (Polk, R. L. & Co.) — region digits are legible but the firms are usually associated with other regions. Case numbers are printed with en-dashes; ordinary hyphens are used here. Stray marginal specks and dots in the scan are not part of the table.

The crop is not a numeric statistical table but a page of an appendix list of cases (page 150 of the Twelfth Annual Report), continuing from the previous page: two printed columns, case number at the left (treated as the stub) and company name at the right. No column headings appear on this page, so header_rows is empty. The list is alphabetical by company name and blank lines separate the alphabetical groups (C/D/E/F/G/H/I/J/K/L/M); those blank lines carry no text and are not transcribed as rows. The running head and page number are omitted as instructed. Doubtful cells, all in the case-number column: "9I-R-1346" (Indianapolis Power & Light Co.) — the second character may be a capital I (subregion marker) or the digit 1; "5W-R-2678" (Morowebb Cotton Mills Co.) — the prefix reads 5W but the serial is much longer than the other 5W case on this page (5W-R-90), and the line is set slightly further left than its neighbours, so the prefix may be a misprint or the serial may belong to a plain 5-R series; "14-RE-18" (Laclede Gas Light Co., The.) — case-type letters read RE, unlike every other line's R; "15M-R-98" and "16E-R-17" have subregion letters that are legible but small. Company-name readings that the 1-bit scan leaves slightly soft: "Gam Sales Co.", "Donny Box Co.", "Eisen Bros., Inc.", "Lehrolite, Inc.", "Mimar Products, Inc.". Two consecutive rows both read "General Electric Co." with different case numbers (1-R-3753 and 21-R-3968); that duplication is as printed.

p. 159. This crop is a continuation page of an alphabetical listing of cases (letters N through W); no column headings are printed on it, so header_rows is empty. The grid has two printed columns: the case number (stub, left, right-aligned under a hanging-indent style) and the company name. The list is broken by blank spacing lines between alphabetical groups (after Norway Needlecraft, Omar Mills, Premier Container, Queen City Industries, Royal Palm, Superior Mfg., Tuttle, and United States Time); those gaps carry no label or value and are not transcribed as rows. No entry begins the letter V, and no letters after W appear before the crop ends, so the table is almost certainly cut off at the bottom (it likely continues on the following page). Each company name is printed with a terminal period, which is kept as printed. Doubtful characters, all in a 1-bit scan where 8/9/6/3 can break up: the region digit of "9-R-2678" (National Carbide Corp.) and of "6-R-1744" (Sharon Herald Co., The.) and "9-R-2708" (Queen City Industries.); the final digit of "2-R-7793" (National Lead Co.), which could be 7798; and "13-R-4483" (U. S. Industrial Chemicals, Inc.) versus 4488. Spellings are transcribed as printed even where the firm's usual spelling differs: "Scovil Mfg. Co." (Scovill) and "Tobe-Deutchman Corp." (Tobe-Deutschmann).
