Reader’s notes

p. 153. Structure: this is a two-column case list (column 0 = case number, column 1 = case name), not a numeric table. No column headings are printed anywhere on the crop, so header_rows is empty. Crop boundaries: the first 22 rows (names from "Texas Co., The" through "Youngstown Mines Corp., The.") are the tail of an alphabetical list begun on earlier pages — its section heading (presumably "C. ...") is above the crop. The list continues after the last transcribed row ("1-R-2932 Worcester Woolen Mills Corp.") onto the next page; the crop ends flush at the bottom of the type block, so the "W"/"Y" tail of section D may be cut off. Blank lines: the list leaves a blank line between alphabetical letter groups (T / U / W / Y, and again within section D). These are typographic spacing, not rows, and are not transcribed. "D. Cases in Which the Board Directed the Opening and Counting of Challenged Ballots, Following a Prehearing Election" is printed as a centred bold section heading on two lines; joined into one label in the stub with an empty value cell. Letter/digit legibility (heavy, blotted 300-ppi scan of a bold face): - The case-type letter is "R" in every case number, but the ink fills the bowl so it reads like "B" in several lines (e.g. the rows for Union Mfg. Co., U. S. Cold Storage, U. S. Gypsum (13-R-3541), Whittet Higgins, Wood Embly, Yellow Transit, Youngstown, American Bakeries, Chatfield, Continental, Crucible, Estee, Fresh'nd Aire, Gastonia, General Dry Batteries, Gilchrist, Hall Level, Horton's, Paragon, Radionic, Southern Extract, Stokely, Troy, Univis, West Engineering, Worcester). Transcribed as "R" throughout. - 6 vs. 8 vs. 5 cannot be fully separated where the loops are filled. The digits I am least sure of: "18-R-1664" (Theiler Carl & Joe — could be 1684), "5-R-2436" (Tobacco Machinery — could be 2438), "16-R-1678" (Triangle Publications), "16-R-2005" (U. S. Cold Storage), "1-R-2985" (Whittet Higgins), "9-R-2333" (Youngstown Mines), "16-R-1962" (Hall Level), "13-R-3660" (Radionic Transformer), "9-R-2063" (Schiable Foundry), "10-R-1739" (Southern Extract), "5-R-2486" (West Engineering), "1-R-2932" (Worcester Woolen Mills), and the leading "16" of the five Texas/Triangle/Union/Yellow rows. - "19P-R-26" (Gilchrist Timber Co.) is transcribed as the characters appear; the "P" is a subregional designation attached to region 19 and is not a footnote marker. Scan artifacts, not printed content: a small stray tick in the blank space just below the section D heading (above the "10-R-2494" line); a stray comma-like mark before "Chatfield Paper Co., The."; a stray quote-like mark before "Continental Foundry & Machine Co."; an underscore-like mark under the "95" of "6-R-1495"; and a short dash in the right margin level with the Fresh'nd Aire / Gastonia rows. Trailing periods are transcribed as seen; "Texas Co., The" shows no final period whereas "Youngstown Mines Corp., The." and "Chatfield Paper Co., The." do, which may be a printing inconsistency rather than a reading error.
