p. 82. 19 columns. Column 19 ("Against unions") is placed under the "Valid votes cast for—" spanner: the spanner's rule and centering run to the right edge of the table, and the arithmetic confirms it (208,524 + 288,381 + 124,827 + 183,742 = 805,474, the printed "Total" in column 12). Every other cross-foot also reconciles exactly (all ten body rows sum to the Total row in every numeric column; the four "won by" columns sum to the "Number of elections and cross checks" column in each row; and all printed percentages agree with the implied ratios), so the column assignment and digits are well corroborated. Doubtful glyphs, all resolved by that arithmetic: (a) row "C. I. O. affiliates", column "Eligible voters / Percent casting valid votes" is printed as "87 2" with no visible decimal point — the point is lost in the scan; transcribed as 87.2, which matches 183,822/210,835 = 87.19. (b) In the row label "A. F. of L. affiliates-A. F. of L. affiliates", the period after the first "L" is not visible in the scan (type break or broken-off period); transcribed with the period to match the other labels. (c) The small raised footnote markers on rows 5-8 and 11 are blurred at this resolution; they are read as the sequential 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, which is confirmed by the footnote texts matching their rows (footnote 2 describes an A. F. of L.-unaffiliated pairing, footnote 3 describes 3 A. F. of L. unions on one ballot, footnote 4 a C. I. O.-unaffiliated pairing, footnote 5 a three-way pairing).
