Reader’s notes

p. 80. SCOPE: the crop is not a single table — it is all of page 72, which carries three separate tables: (1) "Table 8.—Disposition of representation cases closed during the fiscal year 1947, by stage and method—Continued" at the top, (2) "Table 9.—Forms of remedy in unfair labor practice cases closed during the fiscal year 1947, by identification of complainant" in the middle, and (3) "Table 10.—Formal action taken during the fiscal year 1947" at the bottom. They have different column structures (4, 6 and 7 columns respectively) and cannot share one rectangular grid, so per the filename marker "_t1_" I have transcribed only the first table on the page, Table 8 (continued). Tables 9 and 10 are NOT represented in the grid above and need their own crops/records. FOOTNOTES: Table 8 (continued) has none printed under it. The two footnotes at the foot of the page ("1 The figure for actions is less than the number of cases involved because a group of individual cases are sometimes consolidated for 1 action." and "2 Includes 25 prehearing election cases in which the Board directed the opening and counting of challenged ballots.") belong to Table 10, not to the transcribed table, so `footnotes` is empty. STRUCTURE: Table 8's body is hierarchical — "After Board decision" is the group total; "Certified", "Dismissed" and "Withdrawn" are its first-level components; the further-indented lines are the breakdowns of "Certified" (4 lines) and of "Dismissed" (4 lines). Indentation is not preserved in the stub text, so note that "Stipulated election and cross check", "Ordered election" and "Prehearing election and Board decision" each appear twice — once under Certified and once under Dismissed. LEGIBILITY: the scan is a coarse bitonal halftone and several digits are ambiguous in isolation — 3/8 and 5/6 in particular. I resolved them by internal arithmetic, and every check closes exactly as transcribed: Certified 442+94+674+150 = 1,360 (and 4.2+.9+6.5+1.4 = 13.0; 3.4+.7+5.2+1.1 = 10.4); Dismissed 142+172+16+92 = 422 (1.4+1.5+.2+.9 = 4.0; 1.1+1.4+.1+.7 = 3.3); After Board decision 1,360+422+78 = 1,860 (13.0+4.0+.8 = 17.8; 10.4+3.3+.6 = 14.3). Specific calls worth flagging: "After Board decision"/Percent of cases on docket reads like "14.8" at this resolution but is 14.3 by the column sum; "Certified"/Number of cases reads like "1,350" but is 1,360 by the component sum; "Ordered election" (under Certified) percentages are 6.5 and 5.2, not 6.6/5.2. No printed total appears to be in error. FORMATTING: decimal fractions below 1 are printed without a leading zero (".9", ".7", ".2", ".1", ".8", ".6") and are kept that way. Typesetting spaces after the thousands comma ("1, 860") have been closed up to "1,860". Leader dots after the row labels were dropped.
